Re: My '72 911T

Odd the output bearing has run on the shaft, but that imho might rumble than tick. I guess the frequency of the tick increases with speed of turn? I’ve had the same swarf on the mag plug in my Lola box, was synchro wear. Fingers crossed for you, but I would expect a total strip soon. I have a Quaif ...

Yes, that could be a bit of a Trade Secret for those earning a living from this stuff.
Rob, does the Dempsey book give some leaders on this?

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day

I started my apprenticeship at James Booth Aluminium in 1968 who made a lot of the aluminium alloys for Concord. The feeling of pride within the factory ( about 2000 employees) was very high, I remember it well. Oddly, the plant is still operating in Kitts Green Birmingham, remarkable! What a machin...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Helicoils were used sometimes as more available and cheap, but just bent wire. Best avoided. I think you are building this engine as stock or a bit modified and I'm sure the engine is strong enough for a good deal more output as Porsche designed it. You can always go the whole hog with suffle pins a...

Re: tuning a 911 with PMO Carbs

Interesting Mike. My hot 3.2 in the race Lola-Porsche has (too big) 50mm PMO's on, made 298 bhp @6400 on the new engine rollers, We stopped there as the engine was new-born. It is a bit rough to cold start, hot start is really good, and the tick over is a bit uneven and one side (4,5,6) pops a few t...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Just my 2d worth: When I did my 2.4 T/S engine in '92, Bob Watson said leave the studs alone. Mag case '7R' . The studs etc were all stock and looked good, and I think that make the decision. If your studs look corroded and the head threads look damaged etc then i would be tempted to time sert if yo...

Re: 915 gearbox

Just a thought...

Might be good to help you sell if you say if it is an early magnesium case box and has a mechanical speedo drive or is an aluminium case with electronic speedo drive cable.
Is it a 4 or 5 speed box?
A picture speaks a 1000 words!

Just trying to help.

Re: 915 trans HEAVY DUTY clutch supplier needed!

I think they could not care less. Will not use them again! The Helix clutch is back in the Lola and works a treat, super super smooth right through tick-over to red-line. Pedal effort much the same as the old Sachs clutch yet has a torque rating of 360 ftlb. https://i.postimg.cc/yYGkmRfq/DSC0080.jpg...

Be good to see you soon Jim.
