Re: Assessing an unknown engine
True, the dish washer is me.
I’m cheap and reliable and never break down.
Best cleaning for me has been paraffin, more paraffin, WD40. Bag after drying.
Brake cleaner and then more just before assembly..
I used to buy it off eBay 10 cans at a time.

Re: Porsche for sale of the day..........
Depends how you are physically of course, but I’ve had my 911/ 73T with a 3.2 in it for 34 years now. In those years it has done about 60k miles, hill climb suspension, full roll cage and racing seat with aftermarket for the wife. I installed 4 point harness for me when I hillclimbed it, but seat be...

Porsches hill climbing in numbers!
On the 8th and 9th of June there will be 20 Porsches of all road going and modified twists at Loton Park speed hill climb close to Wales, nearest town is Shrewsbury. Easy to access via the A5 heading into Wales and in Shropshire. Food, beer and more there, bacon butties to write home about and even ...

The costs detailed are a real sobering tale. Just all feels excessive and more to me.
That aside, sure looks good!

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda
Way back in the early 70s my best mate had 2 Imps, 2nd one was a 998 Sport, revved to 10,000 rpm indicated. Stock brakes with Ferrodo pads, worked well 4 up. Lowered all round with silly negative camber on the front, I think you could buy a kit for that. Koni dampers, adjustable. He regrets selling ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
It is rare to see a 7 written the continental way in the UK so guess that could be factory. The cylinder height are grouped in height sets and are numbered so. You need all 6 to be the same. This allows the base copper gaskets to be the same thickness keeping the top surface level for the cam carrie...

What about the handbrake job done just before the trip?
I can see a tick tick from that before the diff.
Just a thought.

Good going as ever!
11/10 to the wife getting involved, priceless.
What about the front suspension and brakes?

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Just my own thoughts as ever Rob. Putting the crank back into an assembled case ans see how it moves ( esp with fresh shells and assy lube) is a great idea and a good procedure when getting ready todo the real build. Never needed a line bore in my 4 engine rebuilds. Those few studs are obviously set...

Re: My '72 911T
Odd the output bearing has run on the shaft, but that imho might rumble than tick. I guess the frequency of the tick increases with speed of turn? I’ve had the same swarf on the mag plug in my Lola box, was synchro wear. Fingers crossed for you, but I would expect a total strip soon. I have a Quaif ...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I started my apprenticeship at James Booth Aluminium in 1968 who made a lot of the aluminium alloys for Concord. The feeling of pride within the factory ( about 2000 employees) was very high, I remember it well. Oddly, the plant is still operating in Kitts Green Birmingham, remarkable! What a machin...
