I bought some 914 gaskets thinking they were 912E numbers, but oh no. As far as I am aware you can search the US parts sites for 912E numbers and you might get lucky, or you buy the copper numbers from Jake Raby. I have these but still have to us a high temp sealant. Brakes binding

Check the flexible hoses for condition too, they can collapse and swell internally which means the calipers can't release. Of course a caliper strip and clean is a cheap if messy job. They usually jam up and refuse to move though. I had to apply 140PSi to one of mine to release one piston! My E sat ...

Are we talking a type 4 or type 1 vw here?

I would be very surpried if you could get a reliable 204HP out of a 2276cc

1766cc will give about 90HP. What about the torque curve.

To get that sort of power and a reliable engine you are talking serious money. I'd rebuild my 616 first.
