I haven’t actually seen the car I the flesh since blasting, that pleasure awaits me tomorrow, but you’re right- while it looked like brazing pre blasting, it now looks like something from a tube in screwfix911hillclimber wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 10:32 pm Great reports.
That is not brazing, just awful codging up.
Will be fab when all done.

Re: That Vestey car….
Mark also sliced that mess of a shelf out. Think there’s about 5 shipments of panels about to land at his place this week, he’s going to be a busy boy!

Re: That Vestey car….
Some inner wing improvement has occurred. Possibly speaker holes before they realised the back of the speakers were getting covered in road rash from the wheels? https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335948.jpg https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335947.jpg https://www.thesamba.com/vw/...

Re: That Vestey car….
Some more slicing today, Mark is getting all the grot and rot out of the awkward areas. I particularly like this shot of the rear shelf area  https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335950.jpg Interesting to note that it looks like they used sections of another cars rear shelf to braise patche...

Re: That Vestey car….
The race version was just a few stickers and unbolted horn grilles and fog covers, so probably stock with magnetic numbers I reckon.

And a bit of time for Mark to start straightening out the mangled rear end where it looks like it was dragged by a chain..! https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335684.jpg The outer might not be salvageable but the inner is being massaged back into shape https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2...

Re: That Vestey car….
More trial fits today after straightening the flattened passengers inner wing- something had been dumped on the shell which had bent it outwards and down. Looking a lot better now

Re: That Vestey car….
Hmm, 911 parts from Swansea.. that must have been David, a good friend of mine who has sadly passed away now. I bought his collection a few years ago. A top guy. That wasn't David Leopold was it ? If so, I'd lost touch with him several years ago & often wondered what had happened to him. . Yes,...

Re: That Vestey car….
A bit of cutting and tweaking today, along with some straightening of the inner wings which had been buckled at the top! https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335229.jpg At least it looks a bit more like a car with these on  https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335231.jpg https://www.the...

Re: That Vestey car….
I’ve got a Celette at home but we aren’t using it for this one. The jig that’s under it is one of 5 Mark has made for the same purpose as a celette, and the mounts were made and trial fitted to my car #4209 - instead of proving the mounts, it proved that one of my front suspension mounts on 4209 wax...

Re: That Vestey car….
Time to see how unsquare it is! Mark took a screen template off one of my other cars before this one went up to him, so that’s been tried in place to see what needs pulling and pushing. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/2335163.jpg The answer is that it’s out at the top, the bottom, also the l...

Rhd 912 a37 near Shepton Mallet
There was a red rhd 912 in a front garden at the side of the A37 above Shepton Mallet for years, it’s not there any more, does anyone know if it was saved? I tried to buy it years ago, the guy said it was his partners and she would never sell because it was sentimental. Anybody know any more about i...

Re: That Vestey car….
From what I can work out, it must have been sat on blocks or something while it got covered in brambles along with a rotten MGB. I think this was used as a spares car for another 911 back in the mists of time, as there were some later parts chucked inside it. It looks like they slung a chain around ...
