Re: Engine Stands

I use a cheap Machine mart universal engine stand with the gearbox bellhousing from a VW late bay gearbox bolted to it...works very well http://www.machinemart.co.uk/images/library/product/huge/02/020110455.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/4331546.jpg Means I can fit a starter motor...

Re: Brake Judder

sounds like the most likely cause is your discs... it's quite common for discs to get worn unevenly, developing variations in disc thickness (DVT)

Re: Clutch inspection

AFAIK The only way to check the life left in a friction disc is to remove the pressure plate and have a look to see how much materials is left. Also, don't neglect the release (throw-out) bearing but be warned, release bearings for 914s are expensive!

remember if importing from the states, to budget to change all the lights... correct Euro rear light lenses and front indicator/sidelights can be expensive

Re: Clear Anodising, where?

A few years ago I tried to use local companies in Leics/Notts to refurb my Fuchs and eventually admitted defeat and gave them to Alan at Canford Classics to finish their refurb. He took my polished rims, had them re-polished properly, anodised, painted and new tyres put on them for a very good pric...

Re: Clear Anodising, where?

I've used SPL Blacking near troon industrial estate to do annodizing for me in the past, however I've never had any wheels done.. the guy knows his stuff; does quite a bit of work for restorers and had a lot of vespa stuff in there last time i was there. he was frank with me when i asked him about ...

I was planning to do most of the refurb myself as a nice winter project, so really just looking for someone to do the re-anodising (the part I can't do) :)

Clear Anodising, where?

I want to get my '72 Fuchs re-anodised as they're looking a little 'tired'...

Does anyone know where can I get them re-anodised? Any suggestions local to Leicester, even better!

Thanks
